Job Description

IT Support Assistant required for our manufacturing client based in Dudley. Working under our IT Manager’s direction you will be responsible for supporting the existing infrastructure (servers, storage, network, telephone services [mobile and land based] and all IT related equipment), projects, installations, maintenance and provide ongoing support to systems whilst ensuring that all administration and daily checks are taken care of.

The successful candidate will support a user base of 80+ members of staff spread across several sites in 4 countries.

The IT Assistant must have strong experience of technical troubleshooting and problem solving.

The position requires communicating with all levels of staff throughout the workplace and so excellent interpersonal skills are essential. The individual will be required to deliver solutions to software and hardware problems via phone, email or web portal.

The position will report to the IT Manager but will occasionally be required to work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director as well as Heads of Departments.

The successful candidate will be required to deputise for the Line Manager in their absence.
The ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team is integral to the position.

The individual will be required to be available to deal with emergencies during out of office hours.
Occasional Local and International travel may be required.

The position will also be expected to undertake duties, which may not be listed on this job description, as directed by the Line Manager or Senior Management which will be deemed as reasonable within the scope of the role.

Key Duties:
Key Tasks
• Administration of Office365 and Google for Business for company-wide emails and emails from external stakeholders
• Handle calls and emails on IT issues from members of staff
• Communicate widely and efficiently with colleagues and other stakeholders, to achieve effective work flow across departments
• Configuration and set up of all new server systems required for the company’s activities; Windows / Hyper-V
• Administration and maintenance of corporate infrastructure, including Active Directory, LAN, Internet access, firewalls, Wi-Fi Deployment, VPNs, etc
• Monitor and troubleshoot server and network performance to ensure any necessary action is taken
• Maintenance of existing anti-spam and anti-virus systems and the setting of new anti-spam policies
• Administer back up and disaster recovery systems and processes
• Management of relationships with 3rd parties and suppliers
• Demonstrable documentation skills (reports, policies, procedures, workflows)
• Produce and update IT operational documentation as directed by the IT Manager
• Research, recommend, plan and implement infrastructure system projects
• Assist IT Manager with related duties within your capability

Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
Excellent working knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2016, Windows Operating System, Mac OSx, Office 365, etc
Good working knowledge of major networking components, network operating systems and basic computer hardware components
Good knowledge/experience of troubleshooting networking protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and vLANs
Hands on knowledge of the procedures used in the installation, maintenance and repair of IT hardware and software
Resilience and the resourcefulness to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines

Working Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday
