Our client is a leading manufacturer of manual cleaning products based in the Stourbridge area and their passion for innovation and drive is showcased by their first class leading service. They have always had a reputation for being at the forefront of innovative design and products and are now looking for a Product Design Manager to add to the business and be responsible for creating and developing new products as well as improving the performance and design of our existing products.

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will have a proven eye for design and be able to demonstrate previous relevant experience of product design or mechanical engineering, knowledge of manufacturing processes as well as the following:

*Manage and develop a team of designers. This requires setting clear goals, managing project loads and allocating designers accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met and setting up team members for overall success
*Roll up your sleeves and contribute as a designer when necessary
*Leading the process for product development, producing and developing concepts in response to briefs, communicating and proposing ideas and avenues for development
*Supporting the production team, troubleshooting and solving issues, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions into production where required
*Liaising with staff at all levels of the organisation, be confident in your ability to articulate ideas and concepts, and have experience of leading and coaching other designers
*Thorough understanding of materials, linear and nonlinear behaviour of materials, fatigue and corrosion
*Knowledge and experience with utilisation of CAD/3-D Modelling Software
*Experience using FMEA tools in design process and experience in the use of lean tools to help develop new processes, layouts and flows would be a distinct advantage
*Experience with various plastic fabricating processes and injection-moulding
*Ability to understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin mechanical analysis and a sound understanding and knowledge of basic physical principles
*Good sketching and concept generation skills; ability to read and interpret blue print documents
*An understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping and testing

To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter, be able to work independently and have:
*A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline or equivalent
*Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel
*Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills
*Technical and personal credibility to work effectively with other teams
*Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others
